Building Condition Surveys
- We can provide a complete service for Consulting Engineers,
Architects, Surveyors, and for Clients direct. This includes on
site sampling, inspection and testing, laboratory testing and
provision of comprehensive reports including repair
recommendations. We can also act as expert witnesses, and are
familiar with the recent Woolfe reforms, and the duties of the
Single Joint Expert.
-
Chemical Analysis of Samples
- Samples provided can be comprehensively tested for a range
of determinands, including chloride content, sulfate content,
cement content, presence of HAC, concrete mix proportions, and
carbonation. Most tests are UKAS accredited.
-
Covermeter Surveys
- Provision of adequate cover to the steel reinforcement in a
structure continues to plague the industry. Even with our
current knowledge of the importance of accurate placement, our
surveys reveal that steel is often not placed correctly.
We can provide teams of technicians to undertake surveys either
as part of a detailed condition survey, or separately.
-
Physical Testing
- Core samples can be examined for visual condition (including
photograph), voidage, compressive strength, static modulus,
expansion, water absorption and permeability. Most tests are
UKAS accredited
-
Petrographic Examination
- Concrete, mortar and aggregate samples can be examined for
detailed properties to show any inherent or durability related
problems, such as ASR, sulfate attack, delayed ettringite
formation, carbonation, permeability etc.
-
Training Courses
- Courses are held in-house, at our Customers own premises
usually. Topics can include Inspection and Testing of
Structures, Non Destructive Testing, and Repair Techniques,
specifying concrete, concrete mix design, formwork and falsework.
Through our network of trainers, we can usually accomodate
requests for most construction topics, so please email us if you
have a particular requirement. Courses are organised through our
sister company Concrete Solutions. The link takes you to
their training course details.

Structural Information
- If a building is being refurbished or a change of use is
planned, then information regarding the structure is often
needed. This includes foundation details, type and size,
reinforcement type, size and configuration, and details of
connections for structural steelwork. See the link for for more
information.
